The Banana Coin is an item that first appeared in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. They are a new iteration of the original Banana item from the original Donkey Kong Country series in the form of a coin meant to be used as a form of in-game currency. They display a banana bunch and are used for Cranky's advice/Winky's Save Points and buying different items.

Banana Coins are used for buying things from other Kongs, such as Cranky's advice or a Quiz. In the GBA version, they can be used to rematch a boss.

In Donkey Kong 64, Banana Coins come in each of the five Kongs different indicative colours: yellow, red, purple, blue, and green. The Banana Coins can only be used to buy Potion Moves from Cranky's Lab, weapons and weapon upgrades at Funky's Armory, and power instruments from Candy's Music Shop.

This particular item shows up much more rarely than the Bananas yet are quite common when compared to the Golden Bananas.

In Donkey Kong Country Returns, Banana Coins are used to buy items and health from Cranky Kong's Shop that can be found in each world.
