Donkey Kong Land is a pseudo-sequel to Donkey Kong Country that was released for the Game Boy in 1995. The game stars Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as the only playable characters. This is also the first game in the Donkey Kong Land series. When played on the Super Game Boy, a jungle themed border can be seen on the TV screen.
This game is often mistaken as a Game Boy port of Donkey Kong Country. However, this was proven to be false, because of this game featuring new levels, a new storyline, new enemies, and new bosses.

[edit] Story
Donkey Kong Land is the pseudo-sequel of Donkey Kong Country. In this game, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong tell Cranky Kong about their recent adventure. Cranky admits on underestimating their success and then blames it on the "advanced graphics" and that "kids will buy anything nowadays". He continues to ramble on about his older games but DK and Diddy ignore him and tell him that gameplay is a factor as well.
Still not satisfied, Cranky arranges a bet for King K. Rool to steal the banana hoard and make the Kongs recapture it on the 8-bit handheld system. The Kongs head out once more to get back their precious banana hoard and prove Cranky wrong.
[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay in Donkey Kong Land is based off the original Donkey Kong Country. It is a sidescrolling adventure game that stars Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. They retain all their abilities from Donkey Kong Country. The player can still switch out Kongs, but due to limitations of the Game Boy, only one Kong shows on screen.
