 Donkey Kong Country Returns
This level starts out in yet another environmental transition from a segment of jungle just outside the entrance to another temple, with a slightly more odd and specific theme set to it. As Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong reach the entrance to this temple, they'll find their path being blocked by the closed jaws of a large, amphibian-like head statue. Luckily, a Golden Head is patiently waiting above the Kongs to pull it's vine, which will activate this dormant statue and permanently open it's jaws for them. Rather amniotic and foreboding music will begin once they've entered the temple, they'll find it decorated with odd-looking statues and wall carvings depicted some sort of unknown creature. As they advance, the Kongs arrive to a floor tile just in time for it to rise quickly and drop, with another odd blue thing apparently underneath. As the Kongs spot more tiles rise and descend, they'll eventually break apart suddenly, revealing a brand new enemy on either side of them known as the Toothberry. This is the very first level in which the Toothberries are introduced and they are among the only ones that the Kongs will find.
The start of this level is mainly set with solid platforms in between short dropoffs containing thorns, which can prove to be an issue since the Toothberries always attack as pairs or groups and always attempt to gang up on Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. They're also in constant motion which lends to the slight difficulty. After defeating the first group of Toothberries, the Kongs will come across a different version of this enemy known as a Cageberry, which is simply a Toothberry locked in a small cage with a damaging spike on top of it. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong must use it to bounce up to the Golden Head placed at the very top of the extended sealing in order to open up the sealed passageway of this corridor that they've come across. New breakable objects in this level consist of medium-sized statues resembling the Toothberries. After defeating another group of Toothberries overtaking grounded and suspended platforms, the Kongs will meet a new version of this enemy known as the Ack, which takes two hits on the head to defeat (while the smaller Toothberry only takes one).
After the Kongs overtaking a second Cageberry, they'll come across a series of smaller platforms where random Acks will come out of the background, making them impossible to dodge given the ground space that they're offered. Along the way, as the platforms start to grow, groups of Toothberries will begin breaking out of random brick wall linings situated near them. After getting past the obstacle, the Kongs will be greeted by a third Cageberry which they must use in order to bounce their way up to an out-of-reach platform inhabited by a pair of Toothberries. The Kongs must whack those two munchers right on the head, they'll reach a Pig Checkpoint shortly after. After defeating a handful of Toothberries and a couple more Acks, the Kongs will come face to face with an Ackstack. Due to the many dropoffs in this level, this enemy takes some quick practicing to get used to in order not to accidentally suicide jump when attempting to defeat it. Overcome two more Ackstacks along the way and the Kongs will reach the fourth Cageberry of this level, guarding a special item.
Then the Kongs must advance from this point and they'll come across five breakable Toothberry statues which oddly can't be broken by the Ground Pound move. Then they must move closer to the center of these statues and four of the five, except the middle one will break open and reveal two Toothberries and two Acks. Once they are defeated, the Kongs will be able to reach a closed off room which quickly blocks them in as Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong enter. In order to advance, they must defeat different groups of Toothberries and Acks without losing a life. After defeating the first enemy wave, a Travel Barrel will appear in the center of the room and blast the Kongs down to a lower level, where groups of deadly Acks are waiting for you. Once the second Travel Barrel is reached upon defeating all Acks, it will blast you clear to the ceiling of this underground temple and clear to the surface, scaring the heck out of a large elephant who just happened to be nearby at the time. Then the Kongs must walk a little further to the right from there and they'll find a large pile of leaves which must be blown away in order to reveal a Ground Pound Pad. Finally, the Kongs must activate it in order to cause a large, stone statue head in the background to open it's closed jaws and spit out the End-Level Barrel.
