The Life Balloon is the parallel equivalent to the 1-Up Mushroom in the Super Mario series. It has the ability to grant the Kong who touches it one to four lives at once depending on the colour of the balloon. Red is equal to one life, green is equal to two lives, and blue is equal to four lives.
The Life Balloons bear the distinct likeness of Donkey Kong's face, despite the fact that Diddy Kong is a main character featured in the game as well. Regardless of which Kong you're playing as when a Life Balloon is retrieved, it will always bear the appearance of Donkey Kong's head.
If you're lucky enough to find one or more of these Life Balloons in-game, be sure to touch it without hesitation as they float away over time, as is the nasty habit of most helium-filled objects.
