Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is a game developed by Rareware for the Super Nintendo and released in 1995 and is the official sequel to Donkey Kong Country. It was later remade for the Game Boy Advance in 2004 and then on the Wii's Virtual Console in 2007. It also has a semi-sequel game for the Game Boy with the game being called Donkey Kong Land 2. Diddy's Kong Quest takes place shortly after the events in Donkey Kong Country.

Overall, it sold over 4.37 million units, making it a commercially success. It was also got good reviews. The soundtrack for the game would be highly praised.

This game starts with Diddy Kong on the deck of a pirate ship. Inside the ship's cabin, he finds a note from Kaptain K. Rool stating;

I've kidnapped that lumbering fool Donkey Kong and you will never see him again. Har-har-har-har! -Kaptain K. Rool.

Diddy Kong, alongside Dixie Kong sets off to rescue Donkey Kong from K. Rool. They will travel through Crocodile Isle to find where Donkey Kong has been taken. They are accompanied by some of their Animal Buddies to help defeat Kaptain K. Rool.

The Kongs start off where the Donkey Kong Country's last boss was located. The original game's island is seen in the background, and Gangplank Galleon(the ship), has run ashore. This will be the first world of Donkey Kong Country 2. It will lead to the Kongs moving to Crocodile Island, where the rest of the game will take place.

Players will need to complete each stage and defeat the boss of each world to progress through the game and make it to the final level. Each world is made up of several levels, that get difficult as the player progresses. In total, there are forty levels. At the end of each world, the Kongs will have to battle a boss to finish the world. The Kongs will face Kaptain K. Rool on The Flying Krock.

Diddy Kong makes his return from Donkey Kong Country as the star of the game instead of Donkey Kong. He still has his agility, cartwheel ability, and cannot defeat certain enemies. He will also have a few new abilities such as, climbing ropes and using the "team-up" ability with Dixie Kong. He also uses a Boom Box for a successful "End of Level Target" hit.

Dixie Kong is Diddy Kong's girlfriend and she helps out Diddy in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. She is considered to be brave and confident, and wants to help rescue Donkey Kong. She has a ponytail whirl ability that helps her reach places that Diddy cannot reach. She uses an electric guitar for her "End of Level Target" hit.

Cranky Kong makes his return from Donkey Kong Country, with a new look, new tips and commentary. He now resides in the Monkey Museum and gives out cryptic advice concerning the levels of the game. In the GBA port, he is in Cranky's Hut. He will also host the Expresso Racing mini game there.

Funky Kong returns with his flight service, Funky's Flights II. Throughout each world of the game, the Kongs can find Funky and at the cost of two Banana Coin, the Kongs can travel to any world they have been to. The second use in a world will be free. In the GBA port, players can summon Funky's Gyrocopter on the world map, and run a mini-game.

Wrinkly Kong replaces Candy Kong for being responsible of the save point in the game. Wrinky will be located in the Kong Kollege and can save the game for a cost of two Banana Coin. She will be able to give out hints for a price. She also deals with the Scrapbook in the GBA port.

Swanky Kong is new to the series and hosts a game show named after himself. Swanky Bonus Bonanza, at the cost of Banana Coin, the Kongs can answer a series of questions to earn extra lives.

Candy Kong makes a cameo in the GBA port as Swanky's assistant.

Klubba is considered to be an ally to the Kongs in the game but as well could be considered not an ally. He guards the entrances to each Lost World at Klubba's Kiosk. He will only allow access to the levels by paying fifteen Kremkoins. In the GBA port, he will host a mini game called Bag a Bug.

Rambi, the Rhinoceros.

In the original Donkey Kong Country 2, there are 7 Animal Buddies. There would be one more Animal Buddy added in the GBA port but never appeared in the Virtual Console version.

  • Rambi is a Rhinoceros and returns to the series for the most part unchanged and will appear in the very first level of the game. He still uses his strong horn, ramming ability, and is now able to supercharge. This allows him to charge faster and break through bonus doors.
  • Enguarde the Swordfish makes his return to the series as well with no changes. He gains a supercharge ability as well which will allow him to access bonus areas found underwater.
  • Squawks the Parrot has changed from the original Donkey Kong Country. He can now be controlled by the player and shoot eggs from his beak. Flapper, a sub-species of Squawks can be found in Parrot Chute Panic. He can only descent and can't shoot eggs.
  • Rattly the Rattlesnake is new to the series. He is able to jump high and reach high places that the Kongs normally can not. He is similar to Winky the Frog.


  • Squitter the spider is able to shoot webs to defeat enemies and to make floating platforms. These will help for reaching items, or bonus barrels in the sky that can't normally be reached. He will not be able to jump on enemies as it will hurt him.
  • Clapper the Seal appears in Lava Lagoon and Clapper's Cavern. He cannot be controlled by the player. But if jumped on, he will breath on the water to cool them down or freeze them.
  • Glimmer the Anglerfish is able to allow Kongs to see in dark areas of the levels.

Gangplank Galleon, the first world.
  • Crocodile Cauldron: A lava themed world, complete with a volcano, a wrecked ship and a mineshaft. Kleever is the boss of this world.
  • Krem Quay: A polluted swamp area with a broken shipwreck. This world also introduces the Kongs to the Bramble levels, known for their music and difficulty. Kudgel is the boss of the world.
  • Gloomy Gulch: An gloomy area with gloomy wood areas, mine cart areas, and a beehive. Kreepy Krow is the boss for the world. This is actually Krow from the first world but dead.
  • K. Rool's Keep: The "final" world of the main game. This is Kaptain K. Rools castle. With iceberg areas and mine shaft areas to go along with the castle. In the SNES version, there is no boss to this world. In the GBA port, the Kongs have to fight Kerozene.
  • Lost World: The area which can be accessed through Klubba's Kiosk. These are considered to be the toughest levels in the game.

Throughout the game, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong will face a variety of enemies from the Kremling Krew. Some make returns from Donkey Kong Country, while others are new to the series.

Each boss can be found at the end of a world. They will have their own unique stage and a few are similar to regular enemies.

Note: There was another boss that was suppose to appear in a world but was taken out after the beta version. It is presumed that, this boss was supposedly going to be the boss of Gloomy Gulch and got scrapped out and got replaced by Kreepy Krow for unknown reasons.

  • Intro is based on the manual's description.
  • Target Terror and Rickety Race take place in the evening.
  • No Super Nintendo controller in the background of The Flying Krock.
  • Swanky Kong charges ten Banana Coins to calculate how long it took to defeat the boss once it has been defeated.
  • Some characters have new sprites or lost sprites.
  • New voice clips, taken from Donkey Kong 64.
  • Players can save anywhere on the map.
  • World maps have been given a new design.
  • Kongs can travel to other worlds for free, as long as they have seen Funky Kong once.
  • The death and end-of-level music does not change.
  • "Run! Rambi, Run!" song is removed from Rambi Rumble, and replaced with the music from the race against Screech.
  • The cheat to get all Kremkoins in the first level was removed, but entering "FREEDOM" on the password screen replaces it.
  • Lives and Banana Coins are saved.
  • New Main Menu.
  • Cranky Kong gives commentary when a boss has been defeated.
  • Swanky's Bonus Bonanza gets a new design.
  • The Gangplank Galleon crashed into the right side of Crocodile Isle instead of the level.
  • K. Rool's Keep gets a boss.
  • Music quality is reduced because of limitations of the Game Boy Advance.
  • Golden Feather Item is added.
  • Ending is changed a little.
  • Mini games are added- Bag a Bug, Diddy's Dash, Expresso Racing, Funky's Flights II.
  • Star Barrel in Animal Antics is at the start of the bramble area. The level has been made easier.
  • Hero Coins are added in mini games, raising the number to 62 instead of 40.
